Dr. Tom Butterfoss received his bachelor's and Doctor of Dental Medicine degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. After eight years of general practice, he returned to Penn to complete post-doctoral work in orthodontics. Dr. Butterfoss was Chief Mentor of Orthodontics for a post-graduate dental residency program. He serves as president of the University of Pennsylvania Alumni Association, president of the Tidewater Orthodontic Society and is currently a delegate to the Virginia Dental Association. Dr. Butterfoss serves as a consultant to the Hampton VA Hospital Department of Dentistry and is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthodontics, Medical College of Virginia.
Dr. Butterfoss is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association, the Southern Society of Orthodontists, the Tidewater Orthodontic Society and the Peninsula Dental Association. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and a member of the Angle Orthodontic Society. His community activities have included coaching youth soccer and basketball and serving as Committee Chair for Boy Scout Troop 201. Dr. Butterfoss has served as a Science Fair Judge for York County Public Schools. He is an active corporate sponsor for Relay for Life. He has been active in athletics all of his life. Dr. Butterfoss was a National Rowing Champion at the University of Pennsylvania and a member of the 1972 Olympic team and currently competes at the national level in the Masters category.
Dr. Butterfoss and his wife, Fran, have three children: Jennifer, Ryan and Adam.
Dr. Jennifer L. Butterfoss Barton has been practicing orthodontics on the Peninsula with her father since 2004. Dr. Barton is a graduate of York High School and the College of William and Mary, where she received a Bachelor in Business Administration and a minor in Chemistry while completing her pre-med requirements. Dr. Barton attended the Medical College of Virginia at VCU, where she received her Doctorate in Dental Surgery. Dr. Barton was an A.D. Williams Research fellow, completing a research project involving digital panoramic radiography. Dr. Barton graduated Magna Cum Laude and a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon and Phi Beta Phi honor society.
Dr. Barton completed her orthodontic residency at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky. In addition to her orthodontic certificate, she earned a Masters in Oral Biology. Dr. Barton is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, Southern Association of Orthodontists, a member of the Tidewater Orthodontic Association, and Peninsula Dental Society.
Dr. Barton’s husband, Dan, is a general dentist at Beach Dental Center in Virginia Beach. They have three children and they enjoy every free moment they can with them. Dr. Barton strives to treat all her patients as she would her own family.
April was a clinical assistant with a general dentist for 12 years before joining our practice in July of 2010 as our scheduling coordinator. She has two sons William and Hunter who keep her busy with sports and anything outdoors. April and her boys enjoy spending their free time with family and friends.
Katrina has been with our practice since 1990. She began her career in orthodontics in 1988 as a clinical assistant. In 2006, she accepted the position of Office Manager. She has successfully completed EMT training, X-ray certification, new patient coordinator, credit management courses and is a Notary Public. She has two girls, Cabernet and Champagne (which are Shih Tzus). She enjoys traveling, boating and gardening.
Kelly has been with our practice since 1999. She began her career in orthodontics in 1986 as a Clinical Assistant. In 2005 she accepted the position of Clinical Coordinator. She is married and has two daughters, Katelyn and Morgan who are avid lacrosse and field hockey players. The family enjoys the beach, traveling and weekends on the field.
Carol has been an orthodontic technician with our practice since 1999. She attended New Horizons Regional Educational Center, where she successfully completed her requirements for dental assisting along with receiving her X-ray certification. Besides working chair side, she also has extended duties in correspondence, records and front desk, when needed. Carol has two sons and loves spending time with them.
Donna has been an Orthodontic Assistant since 1999. She and her husband, Dennis, have a son Kyle and two daughters Kaylee and Chelsea. They moved to York County in 2004 from Newport News. They enjoy camping trips when they can and spending time with friends.
